Golgi Apparatus - the "shipping" office
When proteins leave the rough ER, they move to an organelle called the Golgi Apparatus, which was discovered by Italian scientist Camillo Golgi. While the Golgi apparatus looks like a stack of membranes, its function is to modify, sort, and package proteins and other materials form the endoplasmic reticulum for storage in the cell or secretion outside the cell. From the Golgi apparatus, proteins are "shipped" to their final destinations inside or outside the cell.
